I am in crisis, what do I do?

Please call the First Response service on 01274 221181. This service offers support 24 hours a day, seven days a week to people of all ages living in Bradford, Airedale, Wharfedale or Craven experiencing a mental health crisis.

What if my course isn’t helping after I’ve started?

Our courses don’t always work straight away and it can take time to make changes. We recommend that everyone continues with therapy for at least three sessions. If you still don’t feeling like your course is helping after this please discuss this with your course tutor who will work with you to find out why and look at other options.

What if I don’t feel I am getting on with my course tutor?

All our tutors are trained to be able to discuss with you any problems you may have with your course. If you feel like you can’t do this you can contact the enrolment team.

English is not my first language; do you have people I can speak to?

If we think that you would benefit from registering for one of our courses we will then arrange an initial face to face assessment with an interpreter, or someone that speaks your language (if available).

I have accessed a service like this before, can I still register for a course with MyWellbeing IAPT Service?

Yes, you will be offered an initial meeting to look at what course would be best for you. It might be decided that what you learnt from your previous course can be used before you register for another course, or we may have another service which would help you more. You may be referred onto another service or it may be recommended that you need time to put into place what you have previously learned and discussed into practice, before accessing more courses.

Do I have to pay?

No, the service is a completely free NHS service.

Can I live anywhere and access a course?

We provide courses for people in Bradford, Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven.

My GP isn't in one of the areas listed above, can I still access the service?

If you are not registered with a GP in one of the areas we cover, unfortunately we will be unable to register you on one of our courses. You can use the free resources in our knowledge bank or contact your local GP to discuss what options are available to you.

Are all the appointments on the telephone?

We normally do all initial appointments over the phone, unless there is a specific reason that you need a face to face appointment. You will have a discussion with one of our course tutors about your current feelings, and we will look at what is the best course for you.

How long will I have to wait for my appointment?

Your first appointment will be as soon as you ring the registration number. If you fill in the online registration form, one of the team will give you a ring for the appointment at a time that suits you. If you require a face to face appointment, we will try and book you in for an appointment within 14 days.

What happens at my first appointment?

You will be asked about how you have been feeling and how this is affecting your daily jobs. You will also be asked to complete a short questionnaire, if you have not already done this online. You need to be in a quiet place where you can talk about confidential matters and allow approximately 45 minutes for the appointment. From the information you provide, we will decide whether one of our courses can help you and which one would be best for you. For some people, another service within the area may be recommended.

Do the telephone courses work?

Telephone courses are proven to be just as effective as face to face, and it provides added convenience and saves you travelling to appointments. Many people that have had telephone appointments say that they work really well for them.

If the courses aren’t the best option for me, what happens next?

If it is decided after your telephone appointment that MyWellbeing IAPT Service is not the best option for you at this time then you will be given different options or details of other organisations that will be able to help you.

Why do you keep my GP updated?

When you register for a MyWellbeing IAPT Service course you will be asked for your permission to keep your GP informed of your progress. This is so that they are aware of what help you are receiving for any future problems. If you have any concerns about the information that is shared, you can discuss these with your course tutor.

Why do you keep my information?

We keep a record of your details, and notes from your appointments on our electronic system which is completely secure, confidential and complies with data protection. We keep the information so we can book appointments, keep track of progress and record what is said; similar to the way GPs and other healthcare services keep information. If you have any concerns then you can discuss these with your course tutor.

Why do you share information with the Department of Health?

We will only share very basic and anonymous information with the Department of Health. This information may be your age or gender, but nothing that would identify you. We would never share your name or address for example.

The information is used by the Department of Health to monitor all of the services across England and how well they are performing. No sensitive information will be shared by them with any 3rd party. All information is kept in line with the Data Protection Act.

Why have I been unregsitered from my course?

Our courses are very popular; if you do not attend your first appointment, you will be unregsitered from your course. If you are registered for a course and miss an appointment, we ask you to contact the course tutor within seven days, or your registration can be removed. This does not mean that you can’t come back; you can re-register yourself by telephone or online.

I work full time, will I be able to get an appointment?

The service mainly runs Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm (excluding bank holidays), but we do have some courses that run in the evening. We try our best to accommodate people’s needs but this is not always possible.

Will I be seen at my GP surgery?

We do hold some appointments at GP surgeries however most of our appointments are in community venues across Bradford, Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven.
